If you’re going to split up, you might as well end it in style.
Gideon Putnam Resort & Spa in Saratoga Springs, New York is known for its high-end weddings, but it now will be offering a package that serves up a quickie divorce in a scenic setting.
For $5,000, the divorcing couple gets separate rooms, access to the resort’s spa, tennis courts, swimming area, golf courses and a lawyer, according to the New York Post.
Jim Halfens, who will be running the program at Gideon Putnam, already runs a similar concept in the Netherlands.
“Practically, they are divorced after signing on Sunday,” Halfens told The Post. “After signing, all work is done and we send it to a judge who only puts a stamp on it to make it official.”
And because this is 2014, guests will have option of being filmed for a reality show currently in progress.
To participate in the “Divorce Hotel” program, couples must be U.S. citizens and agree to use only the attorneys provided by the program to mediate the divorce.
On its website, the hotel boasts of suites that sell for $500 and more a night, surrounded by the “breathtaking beauty of Saratoga Spa State Park.” The divorce package, a big departure from their current ‘New York Girls Getaway’ and ‘Share the Romance’ packages, is expected to launch at the end of September.
Rob Sgarlata, a hotel representative, told the Post thinks the new package will have great appeal to different type of clientele—but won’t damage the Gideon Putnam’s reputation as a romantic destination for weddings.
“From our point of view, these are more guests with a specific need, and we have an opportunity to help them to fill that need,” Sgarlata said. “We don’t see it as different from any of our other groups.”
